Hello everyone,
I mentioned recently on the dadima’s facebook page that I’m awaiting some good news. It’s been a time-consuming and nerve-wracking process, and even harder as I’m not a celebrity chef, or restaurateur. The good news is that I’m now all booked up with a publisher for the dadima’s cookery book!
It will hopefully be released in October this year, so exciting and busy times await me over the next few months . I’ve been cooking away on an almost daily basis (mum is so grateful).
As you may recall, the dishes in the book will all be inspired by traditional Indian recipes, taught to me by experienced dadimas who have spent a lot of time with me. There are so many more dadimas that I would have liked to interview and feature in my first book, but I have had to limit the numbers. I am, however, passionate to celebrate their cooking talents on my upcoming website.
The recipes in the book will combine the beauty of traditional home-cooking, dadima style, with the practicality of our busy working lives. I will learn the dishes dadima’s style, and then, add my ‘modern’ twists here and there, preserving their culinary secrets (see blog: ‘Listen, learn and be amazed). My twists will suit everyday cooking, a love for entertaining and sharing food, and a fitness and health conscious lifestyle. One thing I will not do, and I make no apologies for this, is to preach dieting or calorie counting. That’s just not dadima’s style, or the way I was raised! More to come on this in my next post.
I’m excited to share what I have learnt, as my book is all about connecting generations, through the magic of home-made food. I’m just as interested in the food story, as the food itself! In my experience, the best dishes have secrets, memories and happy gatherings.
It’s been a far from glamorous journey, and very lonely at times. I am incredibly lucky to have amazing people in my life, who send me uplifting words of wisdom and strength when I most need them. Keep the encouragement coming as I’ll need it!
I’ll be keeping you in the loop with my foodie journey, through short and sweet blogs and pictures. I’ll share those high moments, lows and the in between periods of falling and rising. Anyway, I’m off for a run to get those happy endorphins going!
Congrats Anni!!!
